Books by Renia Carsillo

Two upcoming projects and publications from Realign Consulting’s founder, Renia Carsillo. Become a beta reader, be profiled in the research, and follow along on Substack as each book evolves.

For nearly 20 years, Renia has built Realign Consulting around a single conviction: Business can and should be a force for good in the world. That conviction has been tested across more than a hundred businesses, industries, and scales.

These publications lay out the blueprint for how, and make the case for why founders are uniquely positioned to change what the world looks like. The first is a clarion call for marketers, holding an entire industry accountable for the world it helped build. The second is a rigorously researched study of women-led companies aimed at rewriting the odds for women entrepreneurs.

Summer of 2027:

Marketers Make the World

How Marketers Created Modern Scarcity, Hyper-Individualism, and a Culture Obsessed with More (And What We Can Do to Fix It)

A call to action for every marketer who is ready to reckon with marketing's role in social change.

Marketing doesn’t just sell products. It shapes culture, identity, and the way we understand ourselves. Over the last century, marketers have been among the most powerful forces in the modern world. Most of us have no idea.

In Marketers Make the World, Renia Carsillo traces the history of marketing as a cultural force, showing how the field helped construct the segmented, identity-siloed world we live in today. She makes the case that manufactured scarcity, hyper-individualism, and division weren’t accidents. They were, in large part, the work of marketing.

Then she makes the case for what comes next. If marketers helped build this world, they have the power to rebuild it through a values-driven, data-informed approach that puts people before conversion rates.

This isn't a guilt trip. It's a roadmap. And an invitation to reframe your role as not just a channel manager or conversion optimizer, but as a genuine force for cultural change.

Be A Part of the Study:

The 6% Project

"Women in business" research tends to focus on barriers. This study is looking for blueprints.

Only 6% of 100% women-owned businesses in the United States gross more than $250,000 per year.

The number of businesses started by women has risen dramatically over the last decade. We laud figures like nearly half of all businesses in the USA were started by women in 2025. But we rarely follow that up with the hard facts about how women founders actually make a living. The success rate is abysmal, and almost no one is asking the right questions about why. Even when they do ask the question, most research focuses on what’s stopping women. Very little looks at what’s working, and what it actually takes to sustain it.

The 6% Project is a formal research study examining the commonalities, patterns, and practices of women who have built sustainable, six-figure-plus businesses — and sustained them for at least three consecutive years.

Not overnight success stories. Not outliers. Not companies with a female face, while men call the shots behind the scenes. This project aims to nail down the narrative about what it really takes to create parity in entrepreneurship from the women who’ve made it work.

Our hypothesis: The path from 6% to 12% by 2040 is knowable. We're doing the research to find it, through survey data, in-depth interviews, and financial histories from women founders across industries.

What the Study Is:

Be Part of the Research

If you’re a woman founder who has grossed $250,000 or more for at least three years (or if you’re on your way there), we want to hear from you. Formal surveys and interview requests go out to interested participants in Fall 2026.

About Renia Carsillo

Renia Carsillo founded Realign Consulting in 2008 with a conviction that how we do business shapes the world around us. Trained as a political scientist and coming from an early career in banking, Renia spent nearly 20 years bringing a unique mix of movement building, marketing, and grounded, data-informed strategic leadership to small and mid-sized companies.

These books are the natural next expression of that work. Renia believes founders are uniquely positioned to create a kinder, more equitable world. She writes and researches from the belief that business can and should make the world, rather than break it.
